{"id":10853,"date":"2013-02-11T08:35:52","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T12:35:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.freedominfo.org\/?p=10853"},"modified":"2013-02-15T18:38:39","modified_gmt":"2013-02-15T22:38:39","slug":"tanzania-will-seek-input-on-rti-bill-minister-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.freedominfo.org\/2013\/02\/tanzania-will-seek-input-on-rti-bill-minister-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania Will Seek Input on RTI Bill,  Minister Says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tanzania\u2019s Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Mathias Chikawe, recently told representatives of the National Coalition on Right to Information that the government will seek public input on the drafting of a law.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cAs long as I am here, I will make sure we get more views so that we won\u2019t be criticised for not accommodating broader participation in the whole process of the new legislation, Chikawe told a coalition delegation during a meeting in his office in Dar es Salaam, according to a Feb. 8 media <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ippmedia.com\/frontend\/index.php?l=51034\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">report.<\/a> The delegation was led by the \u00a0chairperson Kajubi Mukajanga, the Executive Secretary of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT).<\/p>\n<p>The government recently signaled that it will seek to pass a media regulation bill before turning to right to information legislation.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedominfo.org\/2013\/02\/tanzania-say-more-study-needed-on-foi-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\"> (See previous FreedomInfo.org report.)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chikawe assured the delegation that the government supports passage of an access law and will advertize for public comment.
