{"id":10471,"date":"2012-12-14T12:18:46","date_gmt":"2012-12-14T16:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.freedominfo.org\/?p=10471"},"modified":"2012-12-14T12:18:46","modified_gmt":"2012-12-14T16:18:46","slug":"peru-decree-restricts-national-security-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.freedominfo.org\/2012\/12\/peru-decree-restricts-national-security-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Peru Decree Restricts National Security Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government of Peru Dec. 7 classified all information related to national security and defense as a state secret, also setting 15 years in prison as the punishment for violators.<\/p>\n<p>A report by Silvia Hiquera \u00a0on the <a href=\"http:\/\/knightcenter.utexas.edu\/en\/blog\">blog<\/a> of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas (<a href=\"http:\/\/knightcenter.utexas.edu\/es\/blog\/00-12306-corte-de-el-salvador-declara-inconstitucional-intento-del-presidente-para-restringir-a\" class=\"broken_link\">Spanish<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/knightcenter.utexas.edu\/pt-br\/blog\/00-12369-organizacao-critica-lei-que-torna-secretas-para-sempre-informacoes-sobre-seguranca-e-d\" class=\"broken_link\">Portuguese<\/a>) says the Institute for Press and Society (IPYS) called the change a \u201cserious attack\u201d on the Transparency and Information Access Law.<\/p>\n<p>IPYS’ attorney, Roberto Pereira said that “this is a mistake that throws us back to the Fujimori era, in which everything was classified and nothing could be known,” reported the daily <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.larepublica.pe\/12-12-2012\/segun-ipys-decreto-legislativo-1129-vulnera-acceso-la-informacion\" target=\"_blank\">La Rep\u00fablica. <\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The change is to the legislative decree that regulates the National Defense System.
