The right to information bill was tabled in Parliament by Media Minister Gayantha Karunatillake on March 23, according an article in The Colombo Gazette, another in News First and a third in The Sunday Times.
The introduction of the draft bill was delayed from a promised March 8 date while Provincial Councils reviewed it.
All nine councils endorsed the RTI bill, but three want amendments. The nature of the proposed amendments was not addressed in the official statement by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
The Cabinet approved the bill Dec. 5 and the delayed introduction had worried its supporters. (See previous FreedomInfo.org report.)
