The Ghana Parliament has completed general discussion of a right to information bill and is expected to move on to the amendment stage.
Over the past few weeks, speeches on the bill were given on three different days, according to a supporter of the bill closely following the debate.
The observer reported that 12 people spoke on the bill “and they all supported its passage.” Only two members of Parliament opposed setting up an independent mechanism to oversee the implementation of the bill.
With end of the second reading, Parliament now moves to the consideration stage during which involves a clause-by-clause discussion. That is expected to occur when Parliament resumes in October.
