FOI Notes: Education, Asset Disclosure, Procurement

Education: The Hungarian grassroots student union Hallgatói Hálózat (Student Network) has started a blog that curates freedom of information requests related to higher education. The blog, titled Transparent Education, is using the Hungarian public freedom of information request service KiMitTud to track down the allegations of misuse of funds by university student governments. The blog’s author is Dániel G. Szabó.

Presenters will be Ivana Maria Rossi of the World Bank and Irakli Kotetishvili, the Director of the Civil Service Bureau of Georgia.

Procurement:  The U.S. Sunlight Foundation in a blog post has described an effort “to map the global landscape of procurement norms and get a sense of how other governments disclose contracting information.” In order to make information about data disclosure policies and practices accessible we created a master spreadsheet and is seeking collaboration.

World Press Freedom Day:  Reporters Without Borders  released an updated list of 39 Predators of Freedom of Information ­– “presidents, politicians, religious leaders, militias and criminal organizations that censor, imprison, kidnap, torture and kill journalists and other news providers. Powerful, dangerous and violent, these predators consider themselves above the law.”
