Jobs:  The Web Foundation has several open positions for jobs that can be based in Cape Town, London or Washington D.C.

Open Government Policy Coordinator – Help to make WF a world leader in harnessing the Web to increase transparency and efficiency of governance processes in the developing world. Must have strong policy advocacy skills and expert knowledge of how technology and open data can change the interface between state and citizens.

Web Index Manager – Ensure that our flagship annual publication makes the greatest possible impact, by designing effective strategies for evidence collection, advocacy, media and capacity-building outreach. Must be a sharp, media-savvy policy analyst with a track record of success in managing complex multi-country policy research projects.

Director, Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) – Build a path-breaking public/private coalition to radically cut the cost of mobile and fixed line broadband. This is a global role for a dynamic leader with vision, ambition and exceptional coalition-building and influencing skills; expertise in ICT policy preferred.

Membership Coordinator, A4AI – Ensure that A4AI meets its ambitious targets for recruiting members across all sectors, and that members are strongly engaged in its activities. Must have a proven track record in recruiting and retaining supporters, and/or in growing a network or membership-based organisation.

Policy Manager, A4AI – Orchestrate A4AI’s strategic engagement with decision-makers and influencers at national, regional and global levels; work with stakeholders and members to develop compelling, evidence-based messages and publications. Must have previous experience in leading policy change efforts, ideally in a coalition context.

Communications Officers (2 positions) for the Web Index and A4AI – Get people talking about the exciting issues we’re working on through a combination of traditional and social media. Existing contacts/experience in the tech sector would be helpful.

Campaigns and Policy Officer (short term contract) – Help us develop plans for an exciting multi-country campaign to mark the 25th anniversary of the open Web, and build a distinctive campaigning approach aligned with the Web’s generative, co-creative, crowd-sourced culture. This is a part-time consultancy assignment but with potential to become a full time role.
