International FOI: “Rights of Foreigners in Access to Information Laws – a Comparative Picture” has been issued by the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative. The detailed spread sheet (click “download” under graphic on right side) describes access rights in 56 countries. It was compiled by Venkatesh Nayak with input from members of FOIANet.
Bangladesh: Research Initiatives, Bangladesh has published 2 new book recently. One documents the pilot project of RIB in 2010, named “Bangladeshe Tatthyo Adhikar Ain o Prantik Jonogoshthi” ( Right to Information in Bangladesh and the Marginal Groups : A Process Documentation). The other is titled “My Right to Know: What, How, from Whom.”
Open Data: The McKinsey Center for Government has released an anthology of 30 political leaders and civil servants, economists and policy experts, generalists and specialists on how governments worldwide are addressing common problems using newly designed approaches. The anthology, entitled “Government designed for new times” includes a chapter on the weakness of government data in Africa by Mohamed Ibrahim, Better data, better policy making.
