A United Nations body has requested advice on its plans to create an online platform concerning freedom of information and data protection.
The platform (http://www.unpan.org/unpacs) also will cover other topics related to public administration.
The call for comments is an “informal” outreach effort mainly designed to get input from civil society organizations and academics. The UN is already conducting meetings with ECOSOC-accredited nongovernmental organizations.
The UN is looking for broad suggestions for the website, including suggestions on sub-topics and emerging sub-topics (e.g. freedom of information and climate-change affected communities, etc.).
The UN Public Administration Country Studies (UNPACS) is the name of the portal, but the content will not be limited to only “country studies.” The eventual website will contain data analysis, indexes, best-practices case studies, reports, etc.
One goal is to reach the government officials both at high levels and in middle management.
Suggestions should be sent by Feb. 17 to shidafukuda@un.org. The compilation will be submitted to the upcoming meeting on the review of UNPACS in the first week of March.
