The Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada has announced a website to take registrations for the 7th International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC 2011) in Ottawa, Canada, on Oct. 4 and 5.

The official web page can be found here:  http://www.oic-ci.gc.ca/eng/icic-cici.aspx

The Registration button will then take you to a page of the Canadian Bar Association, which is also hosting the meeting.

The CBA is also hosting a Privacy Law Symposium Oct. 3.  Registration is also available for that meeting.

The cost for non-CBA members of all three days in C$1,695, taxes included. The total for the two ICIC days is C$1,130.

The three major themes for the ICIC meeting are:

A – Building Access to Information Regimes: International Benchmarking:  Sessions will explore the features of various international models of access to information. Topics will range from how conventional exemption schemes are devised and applied to the impact of “radical access” tactics such as WikiLeaks.

B – Beyond Access: Convergence of Freedom of Information, Proactive Disclosure and Open Government:  Access to official information is rapidly being transformed from a reactive to a proactive mode. Panels will discuss how to engage citizens in the promotion of an optimal access regime that exploits the benefits and inherent synergies of both conventional and progressive systems.

C – Impact of Technology on Freedom of Information:  Popular demand for open data poses significant challenges for existing technological infrastructures. Experts will describe how technology can be deployed in support of freedom of information and how these initiatives contribute to innovation and economic development

Hotel room information is also available via the registration.
