The president of El Salvador has returned to the Legislative Assembly an access to information bill passed in early December (See previous Freedominfo.org report).
President Mauricio Funes made seven points about the bill in his Jan. 5 return message seeking changes in the bill (His message in Spanish).
Among other things, he suggested clarification concerning the bill’s coverage of semi-public corporations. He also recommended delaying implementation.
Reports (in Spanish) on the development appeared in Prensa Grafica, El Faro and La Página.
Supporters of the bill were critical of the president’s action, but one suggested that his criticisms were more about form than substance.
